So… you’re going to a Filipino grocery store and you’d like to impress folks with a few Tagalog phrases… Here are a few to get you started.

First, let’s focus on food. 😋

Ano ito?
What’s this?

Masarap ba ito?
Is this delicious?

Oo… Hindi?
Yes… No?

Masarap ito.
This is delicious.

Ang sarap nito.
This is so delicious.

Sarap nito!
This is yum!

Alam kong masarap ito.
I know this is delicious.

Nakatikim na ako nito.
Natikman ko na ito.
I’ve tasted this.

Hindi ko pa natikman ito.
I haven’t tasted this yet.

Patikim.
Let me taste.

Puwedeng patikim?
Can I have a taste?

And now the prices… 😁

Magkano ito?
How much is this?

Ang mahal!
So expensive!

Wala bang tawad?
No discount?

Salamat.
Thanks.

If it’s an older person you’re speaking to at the store, remember to add po to your sentences!

More soon… Please check back. We’ll improve on this page and do a few from other Philippine languages as well — like Visayan, Kapampangan, Ilocano, Bicolano, and more!  We’ll add audio too. 😉
